The national prayer gathering held in Alice during Women’s Month was led by the Alice Minister’s Fraternal, a fellowship of clergy from different denominations chaired by Reverend Mzimkhulu Grirhana.
Speakers repeatedly quoted from the Bible, reminding the community that: “God is the answer for a broken nation. People have removed Him from many places such as Parliament, schools, churches, workplaces, and homes, forgetting that He is the solution to all things as the Creator.”
These words were affirmed by the Councillor of Alice, Mr. uNathi Ngcume, who stated: “Political leaders may be elected daily, but without God among them, things will not prosper.” He further highlighted the reality of social challenges, mentioning a case of a woman who had been raped, and urged clergy to continue praying for the town and its leaders, noting that politics were initiated by clergy in 1910.
Reverend Nyoni encouraged ministers to observe events with a broad perspective, guided by the Holy Spirit, and to uplift God’s greatness rather than rely on their own understanding. Reverend Grirhana, as chairperson, welcomed attendees to the prayer service held at Alice Town Hall on Sunday the 30th, and formally acknowledged the role of church women in the community, encouraging them in the responsibilities entrusted to them by God.
Reverend Mlotana explained the purpose of the clergy’s unity and the prayer gathering, saying they asked God to intervene and provide solutions to challenges faced in homes, schools, workplaces, churches, and across South Africa. Among the challenges mentioned were: Peace and safety ahead of the municipal elections, crime unemployment, drug abuse, children facing abuse and homelessness.
Different individuals were assigned to pray for each challenge, including Mama Miti, Rev. Mpande, Mama Mabutho, Mama Manentsa, Rev. Ngumbela, and Reverend Tonisi.
The atmosphere made it clear that the Spirit of God was present among the clergy, bringing renewed hope to the people of Alice. Reverend Mkhiva, in his closing remarks, thanked the congregation and reminded them of the role played by women in 1956 during South Africa’s liberation struggle. He condemned the abuse of women, emphasizing that they deserve respect as the nation’s nurturers.
The event was attended by both adults and youth, and concluded with a prayer led by Apostle Ngumbela.
