CHRIS HANI DISTRICT SAFER EASTER HOLIDAY OPERATIONS YIELD POSITIVE RESULTS
KOMANI: 03 April 2026 – On 02 April 2026, various stations embarked on Safer Easter holiday roadblocks as many vehicles from different provinces passed through the Chris Hani District. The main objectives were to check for stolen motor vehicles, stock theft, possession of unlicensed firearms, conduct stop-and-search operations, identify illegal immigrants, and enforce the Road Traffic Act (RTA).
Force levels included SAPS members and respective Special Units, Traffic Officers, Municipal officials, Emergency Rescue Service members, as well as Fire and Disaster Management officials.
In Komani, a roadblock was held on the N6 next to the Stock Theft Unit offices. Fines to the value of R33,000 were issued to motorists for various traffic offences. A total of 522 vehicles were stopped and searched, and 1,300 people were searched. Pamphlets on illegal firearm possession, Arrive Alive, home safety over the holidays, and child safety while shopping were distributed and explained to motorists.
In Khowa, at the R410 Gushingalo Junction, a roadblock was conducted. Fines to the value of R21,800 were issued for various road traffic offences. A total of 241 vehicles were stopped and searched, 373 people were searched, and 72 pieces of luggage were also searched.
On the same day, Tsomo SAPS members, while conducting Safer Easter holiday operations, received a tip-off about an individual selling drugs in Tsomo. A variety of drugs, including tik, mandrax, and dagga, with a street value of R2,900, as well as R800 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime, were confiscated. The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear before the Tsomo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, on charges of dealing in drugs.
In Ngcobo, in addition to the stakeholders mentioned, the Provincial Head Office of the Department of Transport participated in the operation. A total of 451 vehicles were searched, and fines amounting to R27,500 were issued to motorists for violating traffic laws and regulations.
In Nxuba, on Road K78, with the Provincial Head Office of the Department of Transport as an additional stakeholder, 80 vehicles were stopped and searched, and fines to the value of R43,100 were issued.
The District Commissioner, Major General Rudolph Adolph, expressed his satisfaction with the zeal and determination displayed by his members. He further noted that the Chris Hani District is an entry point for individuals from other provinces who may seek to infiltrate and commit criminal activities in what is often perceived as a peaceful province. However, these operations demonstrate the contrary.
